Sunday Micro Retreat – October 29, 2023

As you begin your time of reflection, try to realize that you are standing on holy ground and in the presence of God, who wants to talk to you and listen to you.

Make the Sign of the Cross. The Holy Spirit is opening your heart and mind so the Word of God that you are about to read can flourish in you for God's glory. Pray that you continue to work with his grace. Let the words or your prayer flow from your mind through your heart. Try to "feel" what you are saying.

Is there anything you would like to ask God now? What graces does your heart desire?
Talk to God about it.

Today, we ask for the grace of growing in God's love.

Now read the Sunday's Gospel:

When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together, and one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. “Teacher, which commandment in the Law is the greatest?”

Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and first commandment.

“And a second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” (Matt 22:34-40)

The Word of God touches everyone differently. If there is anything that really stood out for you in this reading, meditate on it. Go to the depths of your heart and listen to what God is trying to say to you.

Next, let's spend some time reflecting on the following point:

...love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul...

How do you personally understand and experience the love of God with all your heart, soul, and mind? What practices or moments help you connect with this love?

Think about the challenges and complexities of practicing love in our modern world. How do you navigate issues of division, prejudice, or indifference while striving to love both God and your neighbour wholeheartedly?

How do you think Jesus' response challenged the conventional religious thinking of that time, and in what ways does it challenge our own thinking today?

You may end this retreat by going on a walk and trying to see all the elements that talk about God's love

It is good to keep a personal journal where reflections that stood out for you are recorded. The outcome of those Sunday Micro Retreats is good material that you can talk about in your spiritual direction.
